Flamingo Point Seawood (often referred to locally as Karave Flamingo Point or the NRI Complex Wetlands) is one of the top accessible spots in Navi Mumbai to view migratory flamingos without needing a boat ride.

1. Overview & Location
Location: Situated along the edge of Thane Creek, near Sector 32/Sector 36 (Seawoods) and Karave Village, right off Palm Beach Road near the NRI Complex.

Ecosystem: A combination of mudflats, shallow saline ponds, and mangrove bunds that provide an abundance of blue-green algae and small invertebrates, attracting large flocks of Lesser and Greater Flamingos.
Setup: Unlike organized sanctuaries requiring boat safaris, this is an open wetland area equipped with viewing platforms (machans) along the bunds where visitors can observe the birds.

2. Best Time to Visit
Season: December to May (peak bird counts are usually between January and April).
Time of Day: Early morning (7:00 AM - 9:30 AM) or late afternoon (4:00 PM - 6:30 PM) offer ideal lighting conditions for photography and bird activity.
Tide Dependency: Visually check local tide charts. Flamingos move closer to the mudflats near the shore during low to mid-tide to feed, while high tides push them further back or toward inland roosting lakes like the nearby DPS Lake.

Entry Fee: Free open access (no official entry fee for walking along the bunds/viewing points).
Amenities: Basic viewing platforms/machans are present, but there are no formal restrooms or food stalls on the mudflat trail.
Parking: Street parking is available along the approaching roads off Palm Beach Road.

4. How to Reach
By Train: Get down at Seawoods-Darave Railway Station (Harbour Line). From the station, it is a 10-minute auto-rickshaw ride (approx. 2.5 to 3 km) to the Kharave/NRI Complex wetland entry point.
By Road: Easily reachable via Palm Beach Road. Drive toward Sector 32/36, Seawoods, near the Jewel of Navi Mumbai / NRI Complex area.

5. Tips for Visitors
Bring Optics: The birds feed on mudflats across a broad area; carrying binoculars or a telephoto zoom lens (300mm+) is essential for close-up views.
Footwear & Attire: Wear comfortable walking shoes, as walking along dirt bunds and mud tracks is required. Wear earth-toned clothes to avoid startling the birds.
Keep Distance: Maintain silence, avoid flying drones, and do not throw rocks or walk onto the delicate mudflats to startle the flock.
